James Page Shorthand Notes

Further News on James Page & Susan Elizabeth Allen

Hallo all, here is the transcription of the shorthand on p. 214 of From Whence we inherit. It’s probably not as important as Joan might have hoped but it’s still interesting.

You’ll see that the transcriber couldn’t do numbers so the only date we have is on p214, which identifies the owner of the Bridgewater Hotel from 1861 to 1862 as John Robinson. “Mrs Robinson” would then probably be the owner’s wife, not “our” Mrs Robinson, and the trip would have been in 1861-62 – unless Mrs Robinson kept the hotel after her husband’s death.

Hello Bess

Following the transcription of James' shorthand notes, and discussing it with my mother, it has wet my appetite to try and sort out the mystery of the James Page/Susan Elizabeth Allen saga.  To try and generate some interest among the other researchers - including yourself! - I have attempted to put everything we know and have accumulated into one document, including the anecdotes - with my mother's version from about a week ago.  In doing so the William Page mystery has resurfaced, and is apparently solved except for one detail. I won't elaborate as it is all in the attached document.

Hopefully you can send the attachment on to whoever might be interested, including Mal and Marjorie who have apparently done a huge amount of work. If we all all add something, perhaps the story will come together - even about the elusive duke!

Best wishes, and hope all are well
